Sex can be quite a workout, especially if you and your partner are extra adventurous in the bedroom, but how many calories do we burn while making love?
According to new research published in the American scientific journal Plos One, the average heterosexual male burns 101 calories during sex, while women burn just 69.
Researchers measured the calories burned by 21 straight couples during four different love making sessions.
Each couple was asked to have sex in their home and wear an armband which records the energy spent from the start to the end of the session.
Participants were then asked to wear an armband while running on a treadmill for 30 minutes. The researchers found that the participants typically burn twice the calories running than they do in a standard lovemaking session. Men burned 276 while women burned 101 calories.
