How do you know when a marriage should be finished ?

My husband is not happy and does not know if he should stay or leave I have discussed counselling and have tried talking to him but he tells me to stop going over everything all the time.

I'm not happy and feel he is just messing me about I also feel hurt because we've been together for 15+ years and out of the blue said he has never loved me and is only here for the kids. He has also said he does not want to wake up at 80 and regret being with someone he does not love.

Our kids would be devastated they are all at the tricky teenager stage and have school work to worry about.

I ahve always been the tough one and have made the decisions. Should I go and let him have the house and kids or should I ask him to go or should I try and ignore the stifling atmosphere at home and the emotional slaps every time he ignores me or walks away from me and the blank ( I dont care looks) that I get. I cannot go on much longer living this lie but I am scared of making a decision that will have such huge repercussions. I feel so lonely all the time and sad all the time.

sorry i know how you feel even that i am a man and i want to leave my wife not because i don't love her but she dose not appreciate me and  we never talk when i tray to talk to her she just ignore me and i get upset i love my boys and i can not imagine living with out them but if your husband say that he don't love you and he want out you can't force him any way it will get worst.

It is very sad when a relationship gets to a point where no communication occurs.  I have been studying for a medical degree and have admitted openly that there were many times when I was distracted or too busy to take any notice, but I always thought my marriage was as strong as a rock and we could lean on each other in tough times.  I am confused by the appreciation bit. As a guy how can a woman show appreciation. I always thought I did and affection too but I feel I may have missed the mark. My husband insists that there was never any feelings which makes me feel that the past 15 years have been a sham.  I sincerely hope that you and your wife can begin communicating and work out your problems as if love is still present there is always hope.

It sounds to me that you have achieved an awful lot in the 15 years you have been together: brought up at least two children ( who you obviously love very much)and studied for a medical degree.   Look at the stages of relationships video in the 'check it out 'section of this site...I have found it a useful way of interpreting where I am in my marriage.   Maybe it will ring a few bells for you and your husband.   You come across as an easy person to like..and I hope you find a way forward.
