Using the site:

Who is theCoupleConnection.net created by?

The CoupleConnection.net has been created by OnePlusOne, the UK’s leading relationships research organisation with 40 years of experience of transforming research into practical solutions. OnePlusOne is a team of researchers, practitioners and information specialists whose aim is to enhance understanding of how family relationships contribute to the wellbeing of adults and children.

Who is this site for?

The CoupleConnection is a self-help resource for couples who want to get things back to how they used to be with their partner; for individuals, couples and parents who want to work through personal issues and how they affect relationships so that their relationships can improve. To read more about who this site is for see here.

When the CoupleConnection is not for you

If your partner is violent or abusive to you or to your children or if you suspect that someone you know is in an abusive relationship then you need to know where to turn for help.

How is this site different to other sites that offer relationship advice?

The CoupleConnection.net offers a unique blend of frequently updated articles, film based content, animation clips, quizzes, exercises, other self-assessment tools and interactive features which take OnePlusOne’s 40 years of transforming research evidence into practical solutions such as training courses and publications, which have helped thousands of family practitioners in their work with families, and puts it directly in the hands of the public.

Is this online counselling?

The CoupleConnection.net  does not provide one-to-one relationship counselling or therapy. It is intended as a self-help site containing resources that provide advice and support in the early stages of a relationship issue.  The site is not intended to act as a place for crisis relationship support, or active intervention.

Where can I get more help for a specific issue?

There are a number of references and links to other more specialist agencies within articles and on a dedicated page entitled ‘Further help’. These can help users with more specific relationship related issues.  The relationship forum moderators can also make referrals to organisations offering more specialist help on the forum where appropriate.

The ‘Listening Room’ (live one-to-one chat)

The Listening Room is a service which uses an instant messenger type software to conduct an online private one-to-one 15 minute conversation between users and an online helper who has a counselling or mediation background.

The aim of the Listening Room is to provide users with the opportunity to get things off their chest in a private space. There is evidence to suggest that just being able to tell someone about your issue enhances the process of exploring and understanding the issue better. The Listening Room is not online counselling, instead it provides an opportunity to talk and feel listened to, which in turn can often help to formulate the next steps.

Live Group Discussions

To enable groups of users to discuss in real time topics of shared interest. Topics for discussion will be largely peer led; that is chosen based on what users are discussing on the forum. Users of the CoupleConnection can also suggest topics for discussion by emailing Contacting Us . The discussions will be facilitated by one of our moderators, or by the author of recently published books on aspects of relationships, or by other guests.  A short biography of the discussion facilitator will form part of the event promotion. The session will be promoted throughout the site, and participants will have the opportunity to submit questions in advance by Contacting Us. Users will also be able to ask questions throughout the discussion. The discussions are planned to take place on the CoupleConnection at least once a quarter, and are likely to be held mid-week during the evening.
