'A Dad is Born'
‘A Dad is Born’ from innovative film makers ' Wonderland' hits our screens tonight BBC 2: 9pm. There is also a Facebook page of the same title, created by an American man with 3 young sons, who asks, ‘am I bringing up the children or are they bringing up me?’
So feeling a little concerned all for these new dads I decided to take a look at what support is available for new fathers.
The National Childbirth Trust have loads of resources for new dads, ‘Dad’s View’, online guides and a DVD called ‘Daddy Cool,’ as do other similar organizations. But the one which caught my eye, and who I think, is taking the idea of support for men into a new direction is called fathersplus.com.
Fathers.plus is the brainchild of the oldest children’s charities in England, set in probably one of the most macho areas, the North East. Fathers.plus are working to create ' men friendly' environments and workplaces. Radical stuff, and they have created the ‘Think Fathers Dads Test’ to find out how dad or male carer friendly a workplace really is .
With children's centres, maternity services, schools and other services fathers.plus develop resources to support work to include fathers and male carers.
You can see a 'My Dad Matters' posters, flyers and information packs are used in thousands of settings across the UK.
So check out the www.nct.org.uk or www.fathersplus.org if you are a new born dad and look at the articles at www.thecoupleconnection.net/mens-microsite, support is there for you
